June 2026 Box Office Report Card: ‘Peddi’ Rules On No 1 Spot And ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ Wins The Long Race
June 2026 turned out to be an eventful month at the Indian box office, driven less by record-breaking openings and more by the enduring power of word of mouth. While Telugu cinema continued its commercial run with Ram Charan's “Peddi,” Hindi cinema finally found reasons for optimism through the contrasting journeys of Imtiaz Ali's “Main Vaapas Aaunga” and Homi Adajania’s “Cocktail 2.” Hollywood, meanwhile, enjoyed another successful month led by the surprise staying power of “Obsession.”
“Main Vaapas Aaunga” opened to modest collections. However, a surge in audience appreciation expanded theatrical screenings, ultimately collecting ₹49.83 crore net by the end of June. While the final number may not place it among the year's biggest commercial successes, its turnaround reaffirmed that word-of-mouth publicity remains one of Indian cinema's most powerful forces.
“Cocktail 2,” starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, delivered a strong opening for the rom-com genre before finishing June with ₹83.58 crore net.

June concluded on another encouraging note for Hindi cinema as “Welcome to the Jungle” stormed into theatres with an impressive ₹81 crore net start, setting up a strong run heading into July. The rest of the Hindi slate, however, produced mixed results. “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai” emerged as a respectable performer with ₹50.45 crore net, while Vikram Bhatt's “Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past” collected an estimated ₹17.65 crore net despite fading after an encouraging opening. Smaller releases, including “Bharat Bhagya Viddhaata” (₹6.69 crore), “Governor: The Silent Saviour” (₹6.15 crore), and “Bandar” (₹4.04 crore), struggled to find significant theatrical traction.
Telugu cinema delivered the month's biggest blockbuster with Ram Charan's “Peddi.” Continuing its phenomenal theatrical run, the sports action drama amassed ₹231.48 crore net. Samantha Ruth Prabhu's “Maa Inti Bangaaram” also enjoyed a successful theatrical run, collecting ₹51.45 crore net and emerging as one of the month's strongest female-led commercial performers.
Tamil cinema witnessed a comparatively quieter month. “Con City” managed ₹4.10 crore net, reflecting the relatively subdued performance of the industry's June releases.

Meanwhile, Hollywood continued to strengthen its foothold in the Indian market. Psychological horror film “Obsession” proved to be the standout international success of the month, generating ₹48.40 crore net during June alone and taking its cumulative India total to ₹69.70 crore. The film emerged as one of Hollywood's biggest theatrical success stories in India this year.
Among newer releases, “Toy Story 5” led the Hollywood newcomers with ₹7.46 crore net, followed by “Backrooms” at ₹5.96 crore and DC Studios' “Supergirl,” which collected ₹5.70 crore. While none emerged as breakout blockbusters, they collectively reinforced the consistent appetite for international releases among Indian audiences. If May belonged largely to regional cinema, June offered a more balanced picture at the Indian box office.
