“Ted Lasso” has made a record-breaking return to Apple TV. The Season 4 premiere of the Emmy-winning comedy generated 296.6 million viewing minutes in the U.S. across Aug. 4 and 5, marking the biggest launch ever for Apple TV, according to Nielsen data provided by Apple.

The figure puts the long-awaited return of the Jason Sudeikis-led series ahead of the premieres of previous seasons of “Ted Lasso” as well as Apple TV’s other major series, including “Severance” and “Pluribus.” On August 5, 2026 alone, the Season 4 premiere accumulated more than 200 million viewing minutes, making it the most-streamed program in the U.S. that day.

The strong debut comes after a three-year gap between the end of Season 3 and the launch of the fourth season. “Ted Lasso” originally premiered in 2020 and became one of Apple TV’s signature series, earning multiple Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

Season 4 also represents a significant shift for the show. Ted Lasso, played by Sudeikis, returns to Richmond with his biggest coaching challenge yet: leading a second-division women’s football team. The new season introduces the Lady Greyhounds while bringing back familiar faces including Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard and Jeremy Swift as Higgins.

The season also expands the ensemble with newcomers Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely. Jack Burditt joins the series as an executive producer under a new overall deal with Apple TV.

The fourth season premiered globally on August 5, 2026 with one episode, followed by weekly episodes every Wednesday through October 7, 2026. The season comprises 10 episodes.

The record launch is notable not only because of the show's lengthy absence but also because Apple TV does not publicly release comprehensive title-by-title viewership figures. The 296.6 million-minute figure comes from Nielsen's U.S. measurement for the two-day launch window and was supplied by Apple. It should therefore not be interpreted as a worldwide audience total or as the number of individual viewers.

With its return now setting a new Apple TV premiere benchmark, “Ted Lasso” has demonstrated that its appeal has survived the long break. The new season is betting on a familiar emotional formula while expanding the story into women's football — and audiences have responded immediately.
