Theatrical Releases This Week: From ‘Khalifa,’ ‘7 Dogs’ to ‘Tony’

Indian theatres are set for another packed week, with releases spanning Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati and Punjabi cinema. The lineup ranges from Prithviraj Sukumaran’s action-packed “Khalifa” and Jason Statham’s “Mutiny” to the family-friendly “PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie” and the Salman Khan-Sanjay Dutt starrer “7 Dogs.” Alongside the star-driven titles, several regional films offer stories rooted in romance, family, crime and local culture, giving audiences plenty to choose from at the multiplex and beyond.

HINDI 

7 Dogs 

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, “7 Dogs” stars Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz alongside Monica Bellucci, Giancarlo Esposito, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. The action thriller follows an Interpol officer forced to join forces with a captured crime boss against a dangerous syndicate. The international cast makes it intriguing.

ENGLISH 

Lumivia: The Five Magical Wishes

Release date: August 20, 2026

Adel Al Abdulla’s animated fantasy adventure follows Bluey, a clever donkey who embarks on a magical quest involving five extraordinary wishes. With Mat Brunet and Yanik Comeau among the voice cast, the film blends friendship, imagination and adventure. Its colorful animation and family-friendly premise make it an easy theatrical pick for younger viewers.

One Night Only

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Will Gluck’s romantic comedy stars Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner as two strangers who meet on an unusual night when single people are legally allowed to have sex. Maya Hawke, Julia Fox and Molly Ringwald also feature in the film. The high-concept premise, contemporary humor and Gluck’s romantic-comedy sensibilities make it a breezy watch for audiences seeking something light.

Mutiny 

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Jean-François Richet directs this action thriller starring Jason Statham as Cole Reed, a former Special Forces operative framed for his billionaire employer’s murder. As he hunts for the truth, Reed uncovers an international conspiracy. Annabelle Wallis and Adrian Lester are also a part of the cast. Statham’s presence and the film’s globe-trotting conspiracy promise muscular, straightforward theatrical action.

Tony

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Matt Johnson’s “Tony” stars Dominic Sessa as a 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain, tracing the future chef and writer’s formative days in Provincetown. Emilia Jones, Leo Woodall and Antonio Banderas co-star. Set around a young man finding his voice amid the chaos of restaurant kitchens, the film offers a character-driven portrait of Bourdain before global fame.

Insidious: Out of the Further

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Jacob Chase directs the latest “Insidious” chapter, starring Amelia Eve as Gemma, a young mother who discovers she can enter The Further and inadvertently bring its supernatural inhabitants back with her. The film also stars Brandon Perea and Lin Shaye. It expands the franchise’s mythology while promising the eerie atmosphere and supernatural scares audiences expect.

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Cal Brunker directs this animated “PAW Patrol” adventure, sending the rescue pups to an uncharted island populated by dinosaurs. When reckless mining awakens a dormant volcano, the team joins forces with dinosaur expert Rex to save the day. The film is designed as a colorful family theatrical outing. The ensemble voice cast includes Carter Young, McKenna Grace, Terry Crews, Jennifer Hudson, Bill Nye, Paris Hilton and Snoop Dogg,amog others. 

TAMIL

SP Ponshankar’s Tamil drama follows Gulkand Kumar, an aspiring actor struggling with language and acceptance before a wealthy mentor transforms him into a major star. As his fame grows, fan clubs begin translating celebrity into political influence. Micky Makhija, Giri Dwarakish and Abhinav Goswami feature. Its intersection of cinema, celebrity and politics gives it relevance.

Modha Rathri

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Raja Karuppasamy’s rural comedy drama stars Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar as a couple whose wedding night spirals into chaos as secrets, surprises and lies begin surfacing. Chetan, Bagavathi Perumal and Banupriya also feature in the movie. The unusual premise and ensemble-driven humor make this a promising choice for audiences seeking a rooted Tamil entertainer.

Ram In Leela 

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Directed by debutant Ramachandran Kannan, “Ram In Leela” stars Rio Raj and newcomer Vartika Jain in a romantic entertainer that mixes love, comedy, fantasy and mystery. Munishkanth, Chetan, Deepa Venkat and Malavika Avinash are among the supporting cast. 

Yen Ennai Edho Seidhai

Release date: August 21, 2026 

D Anthony directs, writes, produces and stars in this Tamil drama, alongside Madhumita Das, Riya Manoj and Jeeva Ravi. The feature expands a short film that had earned recognition at international festivals, following the filmmaker’s journey from engineering and an IT career in the U.S. to cinema.

TELUGU

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Shiva Nirvana directs this Telugu family drama starring Ravi Teja, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Sai Kumar. Ravi Teja plays a flawed, alcohol-dependent father with a violent past who embraces Ayyappa Deeksha at his daughter’s request. Set against a devotional backdrop, the film combines family emotion, spiritual transformation and mystery, presenting Ravi Teja in a layered role.

Ameer Log

Soma Ramana Reddy directs “Ameer Log,” a Telugu drama centered on three friends from Hyderabad’s streets. MC Hari, Manoj and Shashidhar lead the cast, with Vedha Jalandharr, Raavan Nitturu and Viswender Reddy in key roles. The film aims to capture Hyderabad’s people and culture without turning its social observations into a sermon.

KANNADA

Siddu Poornachandra directs and writes this woman-centric family drama, starring Adhvithi Shetty, Rithu Chaithra, Lokendra Surya and Bala Rajawadi. Set over a single night, the film explores a woman’s unspoken struggles within a family. Its festival recognition and restrained storytelling make it an intriguing Kannada release.

MALAYALAM

Khalifa 

Release date: August 20, 2026

Vysakh’s crime thriller stars Prithviraj Sukumaran as Aamir Ali, a powerful gold-smuggling kingpin caught between revenge, family legacy and a dangerous struggle for control. Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Indrans also feature. With Prithviraj and Vysakh reuniting and Mohanlal joining the ensemble, the film brings considerable star power to the Onam season.

Bethlehem Kudumba Unit

Girish A. D. follows “Premalu” with this romantic comedy starring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju. Set in a neighborhood, it centers on Justin, an easygoing man, and Ashley, a socially awkward college student whose relationship introduces an unusual age-gap dynamic. With Sangeeth Prathap, Vinay Forrt and Bindu Panicker also in the cast, its intimate setting and fresh pairing offer a lighter Onam outing.

GUJARATI 

Rangde

B.R.’s “Rangde” is a Gujarati drama centered on Dev and Bittu, with Bhaavin Joshi and Sejal Vanjara leading the cast alongside Nalin Dave, Nirubha Gohel and Raghu Madhvani. Described as a story of humanity and feelings, the film explores the bond between two people. Its emphasis on relationships and emotion makes it a character-driven regional offering.

PUNJABI 

Judaa

Release date: August 21, 2026 

Simerjit Singh directs this Punjabi drama starring singer-actor Gulab Sidhu and Jasmin Bhasin, with Honey Mattu, Baljinder Kaur and Sukhi Chahal also featuring. Details of the plot remain closely guarded, positioning the film more as a character-led drama than a heavily marketed spectacle.
