‘Khalifa’: Prithviraj Sukumaran-Mohanlal’s Action Thriller to Release During Onam Weekend
Amid unofficial reports of a possible delay in the release, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s official team has shared the release date of “Khaifa” on social media. The Vysakh directorial will release on August 20, during the festive weekend of Onam.
Sharing the release date, the actor's official network Poffactio wrote, “Hey. Aamir Ali will see you in theatres on Aug 20th, 2026!”
In “Khalifa,” Prithviraj Sukumaran plays a smuggler named Aamir Ali, who carries forward the family legacy. The film’s backdrop entails international gold-smuggling networks, spanning West Asia, London, Nepal and Kerala.
The two-part film features a cameo by Mohanlal as Prithviraj’s grandfather, Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, who will play a lead role in the prequel.

“Khalifa” marks the Malayalam debut of Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh. The film also marks Prithviraj’s second collaboration with Vysakh after the Mammootty-starrer “Pokkiri Raja,” while the director reunites with Mohanlal after “Pulimurugan” and “Monster.”
Interestingly, the film will lock horns with “Thudakkam,” which marks the acting debut of Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya. Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph of “2018” fame, it also features Ashish Joe Antony (son of producer Antony Perumbavoor).
“Khalifa’s” music and BGM have been scored by Jakes Bejoy, cinematography by Jomon T. John and editing by Chaman Chakko.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj also has SS Rajamouli’s mega-budget pan-India biggie “Varanasi” in the works. This film, which also features Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles, is said to be one of the most expensive Indian films.
