Anurag Basu Reveals His Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela Film Is Shot For Only 45 Days: ‘That Maximum Shooting Done, Is a Myth’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Filmmaker Anurag Basu’s biopic on the legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar has been in the news for the past few years. While the director has called this his ‘dream’ project, it has yet to materialize and get into pre-production.
Talking exclusively to Variety India, Basu reveals that he will dive into the Kishore Kumar biopic once he completes the romantic musical drama, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela.
“I'm dying to jump into that film (Kishore Kumar biopic) as soon as I get over with the film (Kartik-Sreeleela-starrer), which I'm doing right now, and I'm galloping with it. I want to finish it because I really want to get into Kishore as soon as possible. Kishore has been in my system for a very long time. I want to get it out right now. I'm shooting a film which has Karthik Aryan, and as soon as I finish that, I'll get into Kishore,” shares Anurag.

Interestingly, the promo of the Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela-starrer was shared last year in February, with an announcement that it would hit the screens in December 2025. However, it got delayed due to multiple reasons. While there were reports that the shoot for it was mostly done, the filmmaker denies it, and reveals, “That the majority of the shooting is done is a myth. I've not shot more than 45 days for this film. The shooting has just started.”
The untitled musical drama is bankrolled by T-Series, while the album is composed by Pritam.
The filmmaker’s last directorial was “Metro… In Dino,” which featured the ensemble of Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
