Anurag Basu on Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Rama Look in ‘Ramayana’: ‘He Has Amazingly Nailed It’ (EXCLUSIVE)
One of the year’s most anticipated films, “Ramayana,” released its first look, ‘Rama Glimpse,’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, earlier this month, on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.
RK’s look as the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu garnered mixed reactions on social media. However, director Anurag Basu, who has worked with the actor in “Barfi!” and “Jagga Jasoos,” shares that Kapoor has “amazingly nailed the look.”
“The way I had imagined Ranbir as Rama when he signed the film, and what I expected was very good. I expected that this is how Ranbir would look, as he loves challenges. It was very tough, and you need a lot of courage to get into that character to play Ram,” Basu tells Variety India.

Calling the actor’s decision a courageous move, he adds, “It takes a lot of courage for an actor to say yes. Because people put actors in boxes in our industry. So, I think it is very courageous of him. And from whatever I've seen of the film and the images, he has amazingly nailed it. I'm looking forward to it.”
When asked about the possibility of reuniting with his frequent collaborators, Ranbir and Emraan Hashmi (with whom he has made “Murder,” “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” and “Gangster”), the filmmaker gushes, “I love working with Emraan and Ranbir. They are great actors. Everybody knows that. But they are also great people. And that has become very rare in today's time and today's generation of actors. So, I will try to work with them again,” the filmmaker concludes.
