‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ Box Office Occupancy Report: Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal And Divyenndu-Starrer Takes An Extraordinary Start
The makers of “Mirzapur: The Movie” took a big gamble by bringing one of India’s most popular Hindi web series to the big screen. The strategy seems to have paid off, with the action-crime thriller garnering an extraordinary start at the box office during morning shows.
The film has set a new precedent by getting a solid response in theaters based solely on the popularity of the web show, rather than an A-list actor, filmmaker, or popular music.
While the film’s advance booking was on par with “Awarapan 2,” its morning occupancy is even better at approximately 35 percent, according to industry tracker Ramesh Bala. Due to spot bookings in single screens in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets, the numbers from some territories remain unreported.

Akkshay Rathie, director at Aashirwad Theaters Pvt Ltd and a prominent film exhibitor, says, “It looks almost boisterous, with an opening of ₹12-₹13 crores. The franchise value built over three seasons of the show is really taking shape, resulting in a lot of traction and excitement at the box office. So, we are keeping our fingers crossed; Day-1 figures almost look like an assured solid number. After that, it’s purely a question of the merit of the movie’s content. We hope that it grows bigger and better by the day.”
Since the film was mounted on a relatively modest budget and headlined by major stars, the phenomenal opening has eased the box-office pressure for the days ahead.
Featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Ravi Kishan, the movie is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna.
