‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ Faces CBFC Cuts: 35 Seconds of Intimate Scenes Removed, Cuss Words Muted
“Mirzapur: The Movie” has undergone several cuts and modifications by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before receiving its theatrical certificate, with the changes largely focused on intimate content, abusive language and specific references.
According to the CBFC certification document, two intimate sequences were reduced by 50% through modifications to the visuals and sound. One appears in the first half and the other in the second half of the film. The changes resulted in a total of 35 seconds being removed from the intimate sequences.
The Board also ordered cuss words to be muted at four points in the film, while six instances of abusive language were replaced with alternative words. A dialogue containing the phrase “Galey se lag kar…” was also modified. Further changes were made to individual words and references in the film. A word in the first half was replaced with “Kamar”, while the word “Lanth”, identified in the CBFC document as meaning “Idiot”, was modified in the post-interval portion. A caste reference was also changed following the Board’s directions.

The certification document records other modifications as well. Anti-alcohol, anti-drugs and anti-smoking static messages were inserted wherever applicable, end credits were added in the applied language and the case reference was modified. Interestingly, the CBFC did not order the removal of any violent or gory sequence from the film. The modifications were instead concentrated on the intimate material, language and specific references.
The film was reviewed by the CBFC’s Revising Committee before the certificate was issued. The certification documents are dated August 29, 2026 with Excel Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. listed as both the applicant and producer.
“Mirzapur: The Movie” is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. The film brings the “Mirzapur” universe to cinemas with Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu returning as Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit and Munna Tripathi, respectively. The ensemble also includes Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Abhishek Banerjee, Harshita Gaur, Ravi Kishan, Jitendra Kumar, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang and Sonal Chauhan, among others.
Following the mandated changes, “Mirzapur: The Movie” has been certified ‘A’ for theatrical exhibition. The final runtime is 197 minutes and 19 seconds, making it approximately three hours and 17 minutes long. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 4, 2026.
