‘Mirzapur’ Season 4 Is Already Being Written, Confirms Director Gurmmeet Singh: “The Scripting Is On” (EXCLUSIVE)
Even as anticipation builds around "Mirzapur: The Movie," the next chapter of the franchise is already taking shape behind the scenes. Director Gurmmeet Singh confirms to Variety India that scripting for Season 4 of the series is underway. However, plot details remain underwraps to avoid revealing plot points from the upcoming feature film.
"The scripting is on," Singh says. "What I can say is it's being scripted, and we're really looking forward to that as well."
The confirmation indicates that the world of "Mirzapur" will continue beyond its first theatrical outing. Announced last year, "Mirzapur: The Movie" reunites franchise regulars including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar and Harshita Gaur, bringing the sprawling crime saga from streaming to the big screen.

According to Singh, however, the film now occupies the center of the franchise's creative roadmap, making it impossible to discuss where Season 4 is headed without spoiling what audiences will first experience in cinemas.
"Right now the film is at the center of it, so it'd be very difficult for me to give out how stuff is happening. Currently, all attention is towards the film because this is a very unique thing for us to be able to pull off," he says.
The filmmaker also revealed that while planning for the next season is actively progressing behind the scenes, the production timeline is still being coordinated internally, owing in part to the logistical challenge of assembling the franchise's expansive ensemble cast.
"I don't know if I even have that information yet," Singh says when asked about a production schedule. "I'm sure the planning in the back rooms is all on, and they would know because it's also such a big cast roster. Things need to be planned well in advance. So I guess right now they're not bothering us with that because they want us to focus on the film. I think closer to when the film is done and handed over, that conversation will pick up speed again."

Singh also confirms that returning to direct Season 4 will be his next major directorial assignment after completing work on "Mirzapur: The Movie," while he simultaneously develops projects as a producer.
"Directing Season 4 is what's in the pipeline," he shares. The director also reflects on one of Season 3's most debated creative decisions: Guddu Pandit's moral descent. Played by Ali Fazal, the fan-favorite character ended the third season in a far darker emotional space than audiences had previously seen.
"At the end of Season 3, we really wanted to show the downfall of Guddu(Ali Fazal)," Singh explains. "He almost is the mad king. We took him down a really dark path where actually you can now hate Guddu if you want." That darker characterization is expected to inform the franchise's next chapter, although Singh stopped short of revealing how Guddu's journey continues in the feature film or the eventual fourth season.
Since premiering in 2018, "Mirzapur" has grown into one of Prime Video India's flagship originals, expanding across three seasons and now making the rare leap from streaming to cinemas. While streaming series have occasionally inspired feature-length continuations, "Mirzapur: The Movie," which releases in September 2026, represents one of the first major attempts by an Indian OTT franchise to transition into a full-scale theatrical event before returning to episodic storytelling.
