‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’ First Impression: Ranbir Kapoor, Yash And Sai Pallavi Shine In Nitesh Tiwari’s Spectacular Epic
I had the blessing to be invited to the world premiere of Namit Malhotra’s “Ramayana: Rise of a Legend” at the David Geffen Theatre at the Academy Museum. This is absolutely a movie to watch on the big screen. And in 3D!
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed this retelling of the epic saga of good versus evil. The film brings together a brilliant director, a stellar cast and incredible visual effects to deliver a cinematic spectacle.

Director Nitesh Tiwari held my attention from start to finish, no small feat given the film’s length. Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and Ravi Dubey are all exceptional in their respective roles. It was also wonderful to see Lara Dutta, whom I have admired ever since she won Miss Universe in 2000.
The visual effects, production design and costumes are nothing short of outstanding. The music also left a lasting impression. My friends and I loved the soundtrack so much that we were listening to “Jai Jai Ram” on our way home.
Ranbir Kapoor captures the role of Ram with such understated charisma. Ravi Dubey and him are so convincing as brothers. Yash is perfectly cast as the diabolical Ravana. Sai Pallavi is lovely as heroine who can fight with the best of them.
The movie was one rollercoaster ride from start to finish, not skipping a beat with nonstop action. There were a few children among the audience and they were glued to the big screen for the entire movie. If a movie can keep the undivided attention of a child (and someone with ADD like me) for three hours, that is a testament of its brilliant storytelling.
Having fond memories of watching Bollywood classics such as “Sangam” and “Bobby,” this film rekindled my love for Indian cinema. It was particularly wonderful to see Ranbir Kapoor carry forward the star quality of his grandfather, Raj Kapoor.
I cannot wait to watch the film again and am already looking forward to its second instalment!
