Johnny Depp on Playing Ebenezer Scrooge, Says ‘I Was Looking for a Different Way in Than Just the Idea of this Miserable, Greedy Old Guy’
Johnny Depp opens up on playing Ebenezer Scrooge in Paramount Pictures’ “Ebenezer.” It is a reimagining of Charles Dickens’ iconic ghost story and promises audiences a fresh take on one of literature’s most recognizable characters. The movie is releasing in India on November 20.
Speaking about his approach to play the character, Depp says, “With Ebenezer Scrooge, I was looking for a different way in than just the idea of this miserable, greedy old guy. Nobody’s born mean or with some ambition to just piss everyone off.” Reflecting on the appeal of “A Christmas Carol,” he adds, “There are deep messages that are very profound. But at the same time I am going to see the humor in it."
