Kartik Aaryan has come on board to play the lead role in Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film “Operation Sindoor,” Variety India has exclusively learned. Based on Lt. Gen. K. J. S. ‘Tiny’ Dhillon’s book “Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan,” the film will explore an operation that, Agnihotri says, redefined security in the subcontinent.
Announcing the project on social media in March, Agnihotri wrote, “Rooted in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and backed by extensive, ground-level research in collaboration with multiple wings of the Indian Armed Forces, this is a story drawn from reality… not to create noise, but to confront it: with facts, with clarity, and the magic of cinema.”
Kartik is currently shooting for Shimit Amin’s “Captain India,” set against the backdrop of the Houthi conflict in Yemen. He will begin work on “Operation Sindoor” after wrapping up the film.
Known for directing films such as “The Tashkent Files,” “The Kashmir Files,” “The Vaccine War” and “The Bengal Files,” “Project Sindoor” marks the first collaboration between Vivek and Kartik Aaryan.
The film will be backed by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Agnihotri’s banner, I Am Buddha Productions.
