“Godzilla Minus Zero” will hit Indian shores a few weeks after the Ranbir Kapoor-headlined “Ramayana.” While the Indian film’s first part hits screens on Nov. 5, the sequel to 2023’s “Godzilla Minus One” was scheduled to arrive a day after, on November 6.
However, it is reliably learnt that the Indian distributors of the Japanese release have now decided to postpone the epic kaiju film by two weeks to ensure its commercial viability. With “Ramayana” set to occupy most premium-large-format (PLF) screens, including IMAX, “Godzilla Minus Zero” would have ended up getting at most one PLF show with limited premium format screens in the domestic market.
A source close to the development says, “The most likely scenario is that ‘Ramayana’ will release on its announced date (November 5), while ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ will arrive in theaters two weeks later, quite like ‘Project Hail Mary’ was rescheduled to release two weeks after ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge.” This move by the Japanese film will allow it to get maximum premium showcases across Indian cinemas.
Talking about “Godzilla Minus Zero,” it is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who is also handling the film’s visual effects. The film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando, and Miou Tanaka reprising their roles from Minus One, with Min Tanaka, Masami Nagasawa, and Jun Kunimura also starring as new characters.
