Rajinikanth’s “Jailer 2” has emerged as a certified global blockbuster at the box office. The comedy actioner, which is currently the highest Tamil worldwide grosser, has now achieved one more milestone at the ticket windows.

With current gross collections of around ₹72.25 crore, the film has shattered the nine-year-old record of Prabhas and Anushka Shetty’s “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (₹72.20 crore) to become the highest non-Malayalam grosser in Kerala. However, it will be interesting to see whether it will cross the ₹100 crore mark in the state, since the film has slowed down at the box office.

Besides Kerala, the film has done great numbers in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, marking a one-of-a-kind achievement for a Tamil movie.

With a total global business of ₹736.89 crore, “Jailer 2” might enter the 800 crore club by the end of its third weekend.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie also features Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Rithvik, S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Mithun Chakraborty, Hrithik Roshan, Vijay Sethupathi, Jatin Sarna, Namo Narayana, Hakkim Shahjahan and Kottayam Nazeer in key roles.

On the professional front, Rajinikanth has two projects in the pipeline: “Dharman” and “KHxRK” with Kamal Haasan. “Dharman” is directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, of “Oh My Kadavule” and “Dragon” fame, and also stars Raashii Khanna, Simran, Yogi Babu and Ram Pothineni in key roles. The film is produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International, alongside R Mahendran of Turmeric Media.

Meanwhile, “KHxRK” marks the reunion of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan after 47 years. The film will be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who also helmed “Jailer” and “Jailer 2.” The music of the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
