‘Jailer 2’ Box Office: Rajinikanth-Starrer Surpasses Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Leo’ to Become Highest Overseas Tamil Grosser
Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2,’ which continues its extraordinary domestic box-office run, has emerged as a record-smasher overseas. The action comedy, which has grossed ₹205 crore in seven days across markets, has surpassed Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Leo’, which earned ₹204 crore overseas to become the highest-grossing Tamil film overseas.

Interestingly, three of the five films on the list feature Rajinikanth, underscoring the superstar’s star power and dominance at the box office in overseas markets.
At the domestic box office, ‘Jailer 2’ has collected ₹321.89 crore so far. It is will soon surpass the lifetime collections of ‘Leo’ (₹341.04 crore) and ‘Jailer’ (₹348.55 crore) as it targets the second spot among the highest-grossing Tamil films in India, behind ‘2.0’ (₹407.05 crore).
Globally, the film’s collection stands at ₹585.61 crore and is expected to cross the ₹600 crore mark shortly. Once it achieves the milestone, it will become the fourth Tamil film to achieve this feat after ‘2.0’ (₹691 crore), ‘Leo’ (₹605.90 crore) and ‘Jailer’ (₹604.74 crore).

The film’s Hindi-dubbed version has also made a mark, collecting ₹28.84 crore. It has outperformed "Nayi Naveli" (₹20.65 crore) and "Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story" (₹15.95 crore) at the Hindi box office. With no big releases this Friday, nothing can hamper “Jailer 2”’s box office run.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, “Jailer 2” is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Reportedly made on a humongous budget of over ₹240 crore, the film features special appearances by many actors. It also marks Hrithik and Rajinikanth’s reunion after nearly 40 years.
