With even filmmakers like Christopher Nolan eager to dabble in horror, the genre is here to stay. Back home, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” remains the definitive horror-comedy film franchise, and fans are eager for information on “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4.” While reports claim that the fourth installment is currently being developed, and Kartik Aaryan is returning as Rooh Baba, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3” filmmaker Anees Bazmee has highlighted his biggest concern about making another film in the franchise.

The same reports that speak of the film’s script being written have also mentioned that Bazmee is in talks to direct the fourth film - his third in the franchise. In an exclusive chat with Variety India, the director confirms that he would love to do it, provided they have a good script. And therein lies the makers’ biggest challenge because, as Bazmee reminds us, they’ve covered practically everything in the previous three films!

"My one problem with ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4’ is that we have put everything in the first three films. We even made the hero Manjulika! So naturally, now we need a great story to make the fourth film. And we are in search of it. The day we find a good story, we will definitely make it. And I would love to direct it.”

Even as the film’s fate remains a work-in-progress, reports suggest that Kartik Aaryan returning as Rooh Baba is imminent. Elaborating on his dynamic with the actor, Bazmee says, “I have a great rapport with Kartik Aaryan. We are good friends, and both the films that we have made turned out to be big hits. He is a director’s actor and his biggest plus point is that he puts in a lot of hard work. If he gets the help of a good director, he can do wonders. He is great at comedy and is full of laughter all day.”

Most of Bazmee’s previous actor associations have translated into multiple projects together, and he hopes for the same with Aaryan. “I did one film with Ajay Devgn, and then I did 3-4 films with him. After that, I worked with Akshay Kumar, and made a few more films with him. I also made two films with Salman Khan that were super hits. I feel it is the friendship that when we work with each other, we enjoy it and the whole emotion is different. So I am sure, with Kartik too, whenever I make a film, we will make a good one.”

As for his upcoming projects, Anees Bazmee reveals that it is another comedy. “I am directing a film now that is almost complete. It has Akshay Kumar in it. I have been working with him for the last 15 years in ‘Welcome’, ‘Singh is King’ and ‘Thank You’. There’s Vidya Balan, too, whom I last worked with in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ and ‘3’. And there’s Rashii Khanna alongside a lot of other actors.”
