Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi-starrer “Ramayana: Part 1” is set to arrive in theaters on November 5, ahead of the Diwali weekend. The magnum opus has received a strong response to its advance bookings and has already grossed close to ₹50 crore.

With the film expected to register a record-breaking opening in the domestic market, trade experts are predicting the number to be over ₹100 crore.

Akshaye Rathie, director of Aashirwad Theatres Pvt Ltd and a prominent film exhibitor, believes that apart from the traditional Hindi market, the film will also open strongly in Karnataka, thanks to Yash’s popularity.

He says, “I think ‘Ramayana’ is poised for a terrific start domestically, where I think Hindi alone should do upwards of ₹55-₹60 crores of business on day one. Kannada again should fire in a big way because Yash’s popularity in Karnataka alone can add another ₹35-₹45 crores. So potentially looking at a ₹100 crore-plus day one of ‘Ramayana’.”

Rathie adds that the film could witness a significant upward trend if audience word-of-mouth is positive.

“If the reports are good, with every passing day and going into Diwali and the days after that with Govardhan Puja, it can actually explode. Worldwide, it depends entirely on the size and bandwidth of the release Sony Pictures manages to secure. I’m sure it will be much wider than an average Indian film’s blockbuster release. Now, it entirely depends on how wide and deep Sony goes into the overseas markets, which we’ll know over time. That will determine the kind of potential that the overseas markets have with the opening.”

Meanwhile, Chennai-based trade tracker Ramesh Bala predicts that the film could collect ₹120 crore on its opening day in the domestic market and ₹175 crore worldwide. He estimates that the five-day extended weekend could take its collections to ₹500 crore in India and ₹750 crore globally.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, “Ramayana: Part 1” also stars Ravie Dubey, Kajal Aggarwal and Lara Dutta, among others.
