Ranbir Kapoor, currently juggling multiple acting assignments, is looking to venture into digital production by backing long-format OTT shows under his banner. The actor is keen to explore the thriving Indian streaming landscape as a producer. Driven by a desire to champion diverse storytelling and experimental narratives that might not fit the traditional box-office mould, Ranbir aims to collaborate with new-age writers and directors to develop high-concept series. The actor has been reading scripts and plans to back them, without featuring in them.

His wife, actress Alia Bhatt recently co-produced the streaming show, “Don’t Be Shy,” along with her sister Shaheen Bhatt under their banner, Eternal Sunshine Productions. The show premiered on Prime Video on September 25. Her debut production venture was Netflix’s “Darlings,” where she played a lead role, followed by a theatrical project with “Jigra.”

Notably, Kapoor had formed a production company named Picture Shuru Productions in collaboration with director Anurag Basu for their musical comedy-mystery film “Jagga Jasoos.” He also co-produced “Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva.” This strategic expansion into digital content will allow him to build a robust slate of premium web shows, diversifying his footprint in the entertainment industry beyond his acting commitments.

Several Indian actors and actresses have backed OTT content besides theatrical projects: Kriti Sanon co-founded Blue Butterfly Films with her sister, Nupur and produced Netflix’s “Do Patti”, Kangana Ranaut bankrolled “Tiku Weds Sheru” for Prime Video, Priyanka Chopra Jonas produced Netflix’s “The White Tiger” under her banner, Purple Pebble Pictures.

Among male actors, Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment backed “Bard of Blood,” “Class of ‘83” and "The Ba***ds of Bollywood. "

Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment produced “Inside Edge,” “Mirzapur” and “Made in Heaven.”

Hrithik Roshan is the latest entrant in the OTT production space, producing the upcoming Prime Video project “Storm” under HRX Films.

With RK venturing into the OTT space as a producer, it would be interesting to see what kind of genres he will explore, along with his involvement in the casting and other technical and creative decisions.

Meanwhile, the actor is currently promoting “Ramayana,” which is set to hit screens on November 5 during the Diwali weekend. The film also stars Yash and Sai Pallavi in lead roles and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Ranbir Kapoor's upcoming projects include “Love & War,” “Animal Park,” “Brahmāstra Part Two: Dev,” and unconfirmed reports of “Dhoom 4.”
