Namit Malhotra’s “Ramayana” has received a U certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), clearing the film for release with a runtime of 195 minutes, or three hours and 15 minutes. With less than a week to go before the film arrives in theatres just ahead of Diwali, the certification marks another key milestone for one of the most anticipated Indian movies of 2026.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film brings together a high-profile ensemble led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, while Ravi Dubey takes on the role of Lakshman. The casting places some of Indian cinema’s most recognisable performers at the centre of one of the country’s most enduring stories.

The U certificate indicates that the film has been cleared for unrestricted public exhibition, making it suitable for audiences across age groups. Its 195-minute runtime, meanwhile, points to a substantial theatrical experience as the makers prepare to bring the epic to the big screen.
The timing of the release adds to the occasion, with “Ramayana” set to reach audiences in the run-up to Diwali, a festival closely associated with the story of Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. The film’s arrival during the festive period gives its retelling of the epic an added cultural resonance, as families head to theatres during one of the busiest periods on the Indian entertainment calendar.
For Kapoor, the role marks a significant outing in a story deeply embedded in Indian cultural consciousness. Pallavi steps into the role of Sita, while Yash, widely recognised for his work in the “KGF” franchise, takes on Ravana. Deol’s Hanuman and Dubey’s Lakshman complete the central group accompanying Rama’s journey.
With its certification in place and a runtime of more than three hours, “Ramayana” is gearing up for its theatrical outing amid considerable audience interest. Its ensemble cast, large-scale treatment of a familiar epic and pre-Diwali release make it one of the major Indian cinema events of 2026.
