Diwali 2026 sees the arrival of three prominent Indian releases: “Ramayana: Part 1” (Hindi), “Scene” (Tamil) and “Mookuthi Amman 2” (Tamil). The Hindi film releases Nov. 5, with the Tamil releases following a day after. All three films have tremendous buzz and excitement among cinegoers, especially the Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi-starrer, which has garnered a strong response in its advance bookings.

While all these films are expected to open with massive numbers, the big question is whether these movies combined can deliver the biggest Diwali weekend of all time. These films’ current benchmark is the year 2024, when the Indian releases during the festive weekend collected ₹354.29 crore cumulatively in the domestic market.

2025: ‘Thamma’ and ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ - ₹132.8 crore (October 21-26)

2024: ‘Singham Again,’ ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,’ ‘Lucky Baskhar,’ ‘Amaran,’ ‘Bloody Beggar,’ ‘Brother’ - ₹354.29 crore (October 31-November 3)

2023: ‘Tiger 3’ (November 12- 14; since the film was released on Sunday, taking the first three days), ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX,’ ‘Japan,’ ‘Bandra’ - ₹177.50 crore

Since “Ramayana” has already grossed close to ₹16 crore in pre-sales with seven days to release, the  film alone has the potential to cross the total collections of 2024’s Diwali release, with a good chunk of contribution from the South Indian market due to the popularity of Sai Pallavi and Yash.

On the other hand, Suriya and Nazriya Fahadh’s “Scene” can benefit from the simultaneous release of Tamil and Telugu, as the collections will be contributed by Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Nayanthara’s “Mookuthi Amman 2,” meanwhile, is riding high on the goodwill of its prequel, which premiered on Hotstar on November 14, 2020, during Diwali, without a theatrical release. While that film marked the directorial debut of RJ Balaji,  the sequel has been helmed by Sundar C.
