Vasuki Vaibhav on his Telugu Debut ‘Romanchakam’ and Association With Sandeep Reddy Vanga: ‘His Approach Towards Music and Background Score is Extraordinary’ (EXCLUSIVE)

For Vasuki Vaibhav, “Romanchakam” marks his Telugu debut as a composer. The film, directed by debutant Venu Gopal Reddy, stars Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar, with Pranay Reddy Vanga producing under Bhadrakali Pictures and Sandeep Reddy Vanga presenting it. Vaibhav’s music has been among the film’s talking points, with the composer particularly pleased by the response to both the songs and background score. “I got great reviews for the music, background score, and songs,” he says.

“Romanchakam” is a youthful romantic comedy built around a young entrepreneur whose dating-app venture leads him into an unexpectedly complicated romantic situation. Rather than leaning into heavy drama, the film embraces its humor and breezy energy — a tone Vaibhav says was important to its appeal. “It’s a simple, hilarious film. If you like films like ‘Jathi Ratnalu,’ you’ll like this. It’s not too intense. It’s a neat film with a lot of fun and entertainment,” he shares.

That sensibility also gave Vaibhav room to approach the music with a lighter touch, allowing the songs and background score to move between the film’s romantic and comic beats. For a first Telugu outing, the response appears to have already opened up new possibilities. “I was shocked to get calls from various production houses soon after the premiere,” he says.

The film also marks his association with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, whose treatment of music and, particularly, background score has long fascinated Vaibhav. Working with Sandeep sir, I’m a huge fan of his approach to music and background score. Especially the background score.”

Having followed “Arjun Reddy,” “Kabir Singh” and “Animal,” Vaibhav says Vanga’s musical instincts have been a learning experience even before their professional association. “I’ve learned so much from watching his films. His approach towards music and background score is extraordinary. Working with him feels surreal. His passion towards films is infectious and inspiring.”

That association has also fuelled speculation around Vaibhav’s possible work on Vanga’s “Spirit,” although details around the music remain under wraps. The filmmaker has publicly said he was impressed by a track Vaibhav created.

For Vaibhav, “Romanchakam” is more than simply a debut vehicle. It is an introduction to a new audience, an entry into a new industry and, potentially, the beginning of a larger association with one of Telugu cinema’s most closely watched filmmakers.
