Gary Oldman Teases James Bond Casting: ‘We’re Going to Find Out Pretty Soon’
Gary Oldman is rooting for fellow “Slow Horses” star Jack Lowden to become the new James Bond. While the hunt for 007 remains on for the upcoming films, the 68-year-old English star has already placed his bets.
Talking to Canada’s The Morning Show, the British actor spoke about the casting for the famed Ian Fleming character. “It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist,” said Oldman. “We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

Amazon MGM Studios, which is helming the project, has not commented on his remarks so far and it remains unknown whether he has insider information or if it’s just his wishful thinking. Denis Villeneuve will be stepping in as the director, with “Peaky Blinders” screenwriter and director Steven Knight writing for it. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing it.
Previously, it was noted that auditions for James Bond had taken place in August, with shortlisters contacted by the producers. Among the many names being discussed, Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi are some of the leading actors alongside Tom Holland and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Saoirse Ronan, who is married to Lowden, has also expressed interest in playing a villain in the upcoming Bond films. “I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious,” she told Empire while talking about “going dark” with her upcoming roles.
