Saif Ali Khan and Triptii Dimri in Advanced Talks for Siddharth P Malhotra’s Meena Kumari Biopic ‘Kamal Aur Meena’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Meena Kumari’s life has long lived at the intersection of cinema, love, heartbreak and larger-than-life drama. Now, one of Hindi cinema’s most fascinating chapters is headed for the screen, with filmmaker Siddharth P Malhotra bringing the story of Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi as “Kamal Aur Meena.” Malhotra recently confirmed that the leads for the same have been locked. Variety India has now learnt that he is in advanced talks with Saif Ali Khan and Triptii Dimri to helm the project.
Our source reveals, “The film, a Netflix original, is based on the lives of Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi. Saif Ali Khan and Triptii Dimri are in advanced discussions to play the lead roles. The makers are currently discussing the contracts and looking at shoot dates, as the project is in pre-production.”

The title for the biopic, “Kamal Aur Meena,” was announced a year ago on social media. The film is being produced by Bilal Amrohi, Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi’s grandson. The project will delve into a defining period in the life of one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic actors, while exploring her love story with the director she later married.
Several makers have previously attempted to make a biopic around Meena Kumari. Vidya Balan had previously opted out of one such project, being helmed by Pritish Nandy Communications. In 2024, Manish Malhotra confirmed that he backed out from directing a Meena Kumari biopic, which reportedly had Kriti Sanon as the lead. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Kiara Advani were also named as possible actresses who were associated with previous attempts at Meena Kumari biopics.
