Kriti Sanon, who has played central characters in many films like “Mimi,” “Do Patti,” “Bareilly Ki Barfi,” “Bhediya,” “Tere Ishk Mein” and “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” is now mainlining an urban pure horror film, backed by Maddock Films.
While Variety India earlier reported exclusive details about the large-scale urban horror film, it has now come to light that the story is written by actress Sadia Khateeb, who made her acting debut with Akshay Kumar’s “Raksha Bandhan,” followed by a prominent role in John Abraham’s “The Diplomat.”
The untitled film will present Kriti in a different avatar, positioning her as a strong protagonist in a dark and intense narrative.
The project is co-produced by Amar Kaushik, who is known for directing films such as “Stree,” “Stree 2,” “Bala” and “Bhediya.”
Details about the untitled project, including its director, storyline and production schedule, remain under wraps. Interestingly, Hindi cinema appears to be returning to straight horror, moving away from the horror-comedy formula that has found commercial success in recent years. Upcoming projects such as “Tumbbad 2,” featuring Sohum Shah, Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Varun Dhawan’s horror film with “Rocket Boys” director Abhay Pannu and Emraan Hashmi’s “Rooh” reflect this shift.

As for the untitled project, it adds to Kriti’s long-standing association with Maddock Films. Their collaborations include “Raabta” (2017), “Luka Chuppi” (2019), “Arjun Patiala” (2019), “Mimi” (2021), “Hum Do Hamare Do” (2021), “Bhediya” (2022) and “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” (2024). She also made a special dance appearance in the production house’s “Stree” (2018).
Kriti’s last film, “Cocktail 2,” the romantic comedy, was a moderate success with a collection of ₹95.50 crore in the domestic market. Directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under Maddock Films and Luv Films, the film also starred Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles.
