Alok Jain: ‘I Feel There is An Opportunity For Us to Learn From Korean Dramas’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Korean dramas are a rage across India with viewers lapping up multi-genre stories that release every month on various platforms. Studio heads across platforms are keenly observing this trend and looking at how they can tap into Indian audiences' love for South Korean dramas.  In a conversation with Variety India, Alok Jain, Head - Hindi & English Entertainment Business, JioStar, shares how Indian viewers truly love good storytelling, language no bar.

Notes Jain, “‘Game Of Thrones’ is one of the top five most-watched shows on JioStar. Indian consumers consume content from across the globe. In fact, Korean content has an exciting romance layer. [And that could be because] there is also some level of Asian cultural similarity, which draws audiences to watch that. In terms of how we (JioStar) see it, I feel there is an opportunity for us to learn. We are looking at exciting content pieces from across the globe which we can attempt to remake. I think there is an opportunity to learn from different creators from all over the world. I think we are very open and excited about that.”

Some of the big Korean titles on the platform include “Snowdrop,” “Moving,” “A Shop For Killers,” “Buried Hearts” and “Light Shop,” to name a few. As it turns out, the popular Korean drama, “Something In The Rain,” has an Indian remake titled “Shayad Yahi Pyaar Hai,” which is all set to air on Colors soon.
