Saif Ali Khan Says That He Has Stopped Getting Excited About Birthdays: ‘It’s Slightly Childish’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Saif Ali Khan celebrates his birthday on August 16. For the “Kartavya” actor, birthdays have become less about grand celebrations and more about spending time with the people who matter most. Ahead of turning a year older, the actor tells Variety India that he no longer feels the need to throw lavish parties, preferring quieter and more intimate celebrations instead. “My birthday is usually at the end of a summer holiday,” Khan says. “There was a time when it would be in the middle of a holiday, which made it easier to celebrate. I have had some great dinners in houses we have rented, holiday homes, in Pataudi and in Mumbai.”

However, the actor admits that his relationship with birthdays has changed considerably over the years. He shares, “I have stopped getting excited about birthdays. I do find it slightly childish when someone says, ‘It’s my birthday, I’m having a party, please come.’ Someone else should do that for you.” Instead of elaborate gatherings, Khan now prefers spending the occasion with his family. “I have spent a lot of birthdays alone with the kids and my wife, cooking something in the kitchen, having a glass of wine.”

This year appears to be no different. Since his birthday falls toward the end of the summer break, Khan reveals that he may spend the day traveling. “As usual, I might be on a plane coming back and doing nothing. There will be enough of a celebration before and after, so it’s not important anymore to do anything on that particular day,” he says. For an actor who has spent more than three decades in the spotlight, the simple moments now seem to hold greater meaning than the spectacle.
