Arjun Rampal’s ‘Billionaire’ Goes on Floors in November; Series Loosely Based on Vijay Mallya’s Life (EXCLUSIVE)
Arjun Rampal’s “Billionaire” is set to go on floors in November, Variety India has exclusively learned. The series, which was announced earlier this year, stars Rampal as a powerful business magnate whose rise to wealth and influence unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly changing India. Backed by Robby Grewal, the story explores ambition, power and the personal and professional cost of building an empire.
“Billionaire” draws inspiration from the life of businessman Vijay Mallya, though the series is not a direct biopic. Producer Prabhleen Sandhu has previously confirmed that the story is “loosely based” on Mallya but “not exactly about him.”
The character is described as a businessman who rewrites the rules to build an empire of influence and ambition, with his pursuit of success eventually consuming everything around him.

The November schedule marks a shift into production after Rampal’s preparation for the role. The actor had earlier spoken about immersing himself in the character’s world. “Playing a role like this is definitely not something that comes your way every day, and when it does, you grab it with both hands, feet, and whatever you’ve got,” Arjun Rampal had said after the series was announced.
“Billionaire” is written by Anubhav Chopra and Shantanu Sagara and produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under the banner Almighty Motion Picture. The series is part of Amazon MX Player’s original programming slate. Details of the wider cast and release date remain under wraps.
For Rampal, the project follows his high-profile turn in “Dhurandhar,” giving him another opportunity to play a larger-than-life character, this time within a contemporary business drama.
