‘Toxic’ Box Office Occupancy Report: Yash-starrer Registers One of the Biggest Openings In Indian Cinema’s History

“Toxic,” headlined by Yash, made a grand entry at the box office across the country. While the response in Karnataka, the actor’s home state, is epic, the North Indian market has also contributed significantly to the morning shows’ collections. 

Akkshay Rathie, director at Aashirwad Theaters Pvt Ltd and a prominent film exhibitor, terms the opening of “Toxic” as one of the best in the history of Indian cinema. “The occupancy of ‘Toxic’ differs from market to market. Karnataka is leading the charge, of course, where occupancy levels are through the roof. Most cinemas are showing housefull shows in the morning, and fans of Yash are thronging cinemas in unprecedented numbers. Even up North, the occupancy levels are very encouraging. Between the two, it looks like one of the biggest openings in the history of Indian cinema for Day One, despite this being a working weekday.”

Sharing the numbers from the morning shows, Ramesh Bala, industry tracker from Chennai, says, “The average occupancy in the Southern part of the country is 70 percent, while North India has contributed with 40 percent.”

While the film is on track to cross the Rs 100 crore mark on its first day, it will be interesting to see whether it holds steady during its extended weekend run at the box office. The film also has the advantage of being a big solo release, which gives it maximum screens and access to the premium IMAX format.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas and bankrolled by Yash and Venkat K. Narayan under the banners of Monster Mind Creations LLP and KVN Productions, the movie also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria in key roles.
