Ishaan Khatter to Headline ‘Gullak’ Director Palash Vaswani’s Next Comedy Produced By Harman Baweja (EXCLUSIVE)
Ishaan Khatter is returning to comedy with his next. Variety India has exclusively learned that Ishaan has signed a full-on entertainer, to be produced by Harman Baweja under his Baweja Studios banner.
While details of the project are being kept under wraps, it is learnt that it's a quirky comedy that unfolds in unusual and unprecedented circumstances. The yet-untitled film will be directed by Palash Vaswani, best known for helming the popular SonyLIV series, “Gullak”. Vaswani, who has previously also directed “Bada Naam Karenge” for Sooraj Barjatya's banner. He makes his feature film direction debut with this project. Casting for the female lead and other pivotal roles are underway, with production expected to start in the coming two months.

Ishaan has been consistently demonstrating versatility across genres since his remarkable acting debut with Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's “Beyond The Clouds” (2017). With movies like “Dhadak”, “Khali Peeli”, “Pippa” and “Homebound” in his filmography, he has positioned himself as a performer who can dabble in any genre with ease. This latest project will mark his second foray into comedy after the horror-comedy “Phone Bhoot” co-starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Katrina Kaif.
Meanwhile, producer Harman Baweja has lined up a slew of projects under his Baweja Studios banner. Known for backing critically-acclaimed projects such as "Bhaukaal", "Mrs", “Bhagwat: Chapter One - Raakshas” and “Haq”, the company has two films and a web series slated for release this year — Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's courtroom drama series “System” starring Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika; Vikas Bahl's “Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling”; and the Kajol and Prabhu Deva starrer “Maharani: Queen of Queens".
Looking ahead, the company is also mounting a big-budget action thriller “Captain India” starring Kartik Aaryan and directed by “Chak De! India” fame Shimit Amin. The film is scheduled to get off the ground in July 2026 with a targeted theatrical release in late 2027.
