Prime Video will premiere the second season of its comedy series “Dupahiya” on October 1, Variety India has learned. Directed by Sonam Nair, the series is set in the fictional village of Dhadakpur. It returns with its characters facing a new set of problems. The village, which was once largely free of crime, is once again caught up in a series of unexpected situations, bringing more chaos to the story.

The cast returning for the new season includes Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Sparsh Shrivastava, Bhuvan Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashpal Sharma, along with Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua). The second season is created and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg. It is produced by Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani under the banner of Bombay Film Cartel LLP.

Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals, Prime Video India, “The first season received so much love from audiences and performed incredibly well on the service. Salona and Shubh’s creative vision, along with Avinash and Chirag’s signature writing, have been the driving force behind this series. We’re looking forward to welcoming our viewers back to Dhadakpur with its simple charm, innocence and light-hearted spirit.”

The executive producers of the show, Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani, open up about the chaotic display of rural India in the comedy series, while quipping that the second season raises the stakes for its characters. In a statement, they say, “‘Dupahiya’ has always been a story close to our hearts. While the narrative is set in rural India, at its core, it is a story about big dreams colliding with everyday chaos and finding unexpected humor along the way. We’re grateful to see how the first season resonated with audiences worldwide, and are truly looking forward to taking this story ahead, this time with newer challenges and bigger stakes for the characters we’ve all grown to love. This season is as much about the humor as it is about the heartwarming, emotional moments.”

In the first season of “Dupahiya,” the missing motorcycle given as dowry is eventually found at the bottom of a well. Its recovery changes the course of Roshni’s (Shivani Raghuvanshi) wedding plans, as she turns down Kuber (Avinash Dwivedi), while village leader Pushplata (Renuka Shahane) takes a stand against the practice by banning dowry in Dhadakpur.
