Akshay Oberoi, who is part of Siddharth Anand’s upcoming film "King," has been observing the filmmaker’s approach to commercial cinema up close. The actor, who shares the screen with Shah Rukh Khan in the film, speaks about Anand’s visual sensibilities and flair for action, while also highlighting Khan’s commitment to his craft and his co-stars.

When he was reluctant to speak about his character in the movie, Oberoi shares his thoughts on the overall setup, the buzz around “King,” and why Shah Rukh Khan’s superstardom is backed by the actor’s desire to entertain his audiences.

About Siddharth Anand’s creativity

Speaking about Anand’s creativity, Oberoi says he continues to learn from the filmmaker, particularly when it comes to visual storytelling and the technical aspects of filmmaking. “I learn something from him all the time. I love great visuals as a cinema fan. His visual craft and technical aesthetics are great. He has also got such flair for action and for presenting his actors. I just go and submit to him. I do whatever he wants me to do and however he wants me to look. I just stand there and watch him work,” he explains.

Oberoi also speaks about the artistic rigor involved in making commercial films, pointing out that the craft behind them is often overlooked in favour of independent cinema. He adds, “There is really serious art and craft to commercial filmmaking. People think art and craft only belong to independent cinema. It is very untrue. I have worked with all types of filmmakers. Siddharth Anand has been able to execute commercial craft at a high level consistently. From “Bang Bang!” to “War” to “Fighter” and “Pathaan,” he has been constantly pushing the commercial barrier. It is a joy to watch him at work.”

About Shah Rukh Khan’s professionalism

The actor also had words of praise for co-star Shah Rukh Khan, highlighting the superstar’s professionalism and the effort he puts into making the filmmaking process easier for everyone. “It is his commitment. He is there on days when it is not even required. He is not working as an actor that day. He is just calm and there. He is keeping everyone motivated. If someone needs a cue or something off camera, he’ll get up and do it. He shows utmost professionalism and commitment. You can’t make it to Shah Rukh Khan’s level without that. He gives everything to their products and to their cinema. He gives everything to entertain the audience,” he shares.
