‘Daayra’ vs. ‘Vibe’ Box Office: Kareena Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu Films Open at 10% Morning Occupancy
“Daayra” and “Vibe” have opened on similar footing at the box office, with both films recording around 10% occupancy in morning shows on Friday, September 18.
According to industry tracker Ramesh Bala, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer “Daayra” and Kunal Kemmu’s “Vibe” registered 10% morning occupancy. “Daayra” is directed by Meghna Gulzar and “Vibe” is written, directed, produced and headlined by Kemmu.
Akshay Rathie, Director at Aashirwad Theatres Pvt. Ltd., sees a difference in the initial audience pull for the two releases. Speaking about “Vibe,” Rathie says the film appears to have caught audience attention through its trailer and pointed to Kemmu’s recent work as a factor in building a following for his brand of humor. He expects the film to see stronger initial numbers in metro centers and multiplexes.

About “Daayra,” Rathie says the film could depend more on word of mouth, given its cast and genre. He also pointed to the audience base of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, while noting that the film’s performance will depend on how audiences respond to its story and content.
The two films are targeting different genres. “Daayra” is an investigative thriller inspired by true events, with Kareena playing DCP Ajooni Kohli and Prithviraj as DCP Raman Kumar. “Vibe,” meanwhile, is an action comedy featuring Kunal Kemmu alongside Preity Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Vanshika Dhir.
The morning occupancy figures give both films the same starting point, with the rest of the opening day now depending on show timings, afternoon and evening audience turnout, and viewer response.
