Kunal Kemmu on ‘VIBE’ Clashing with Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Daayra’: ‘It is Business at the End of the Day’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Kunal Kemmu’s comedy film “VIBE” is set to clash at the box office with his sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor Khan’s crime thriller “Daayra” on September 18. At the trailer launch of Meghna Gulzar’s directorial, Kapoor Khan had addressed the clash, saying she hoped both films would perform well. Now, in a conversation with Variety India, Kemmu responds to her comments and shares his thoughts on the two films arriving in cinemas on the same day.
He says, “It was so sweet of her to say good things about my film. She is a superstar, so she did not need to do that. Kareena has not watched “VIBE” yet, and I haven’t seen “Daayra.””

Kemmu adds, “I have been an ardent admirer of her as an actor. She’s lovely as a person too. But when it comes to ‘Daayra’ and ‘VIBE,’ I don’t think anybody really wants to release it all together.”
He shares that releasing movies depends on many factors. “It is business at the end of the day. These aren’t choices that we actively make ourselves. Many other things drive it. Meghna Gulzar is a fantastic filmmaker. “Talvar” is one of my all-time favorites. She is coming with something that is in her strength. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran are powerhouse performers. I would love to watch that film myself,” he says.

Kemmu further explains the release strategy and addresses screen division. He says, “Am I excited about the fact that these films are releasing together? No. Am I worried? No. I feel that there is enough and more for everyone. The problem starts when you don’t get enough showcasing. We would have a problem if we were in a place where one film got 90 percent of the screens and the other got 10 percent. But I don’t think that’s the case. We’ll get equal showcasing, and there is an audience for both. There is an audience that may choose to watch a thriller or a comedy. Some people may watch one film on Friday and the other on Sunday. My only wish is that people come out and watch both films.”
