The first week of December has proved to be a lucrative period for films over the years, and makers are now trying to cash in. This year, two prominent films “Fauzi” (December 3) and “Eetha” (December 4), will battle it out at the box office.

Interestingly, both films have their unique USPs to attract footfall. While Hanu Raghavapudi’s “Fauzi” promises to show Prabhas in a never-seen-before avatar, “Eetha,” the biographical musical drama, marks Shraddha Kapoor’s return to the big screen after two years.

History of The First Week Of December

This release period has delivered three blockbusters in consecutive years: “Animal” in 2023 (₹553.87 crore), “Pushpa 2” in 2024 (₹1,234 crore) and “Dhurandhar” in 2025 (₹840.02 crore).

The crucial factor that favored them was the uninterrupted free run at ticket windows until the Christmas and New Year’s releases.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says the first week of December has been lucky for the film industry, prompting filmmakers to follow the pattern. “Of course, it all boils down to content. But “Animal,” “Sam Bahadur,” “Pushpa” and then “Dhurandhar,” of course. All these films have achieved huge box-office success. I guess that’s the reason people feel that this date is very lucky for the film industry.”

Will Crowded Films Impact The Lucrative Release Window?

However, the much-in-demand release window bears the pressure of multiple big films releasing at the same time, resulting in a division of screens and box-office collections.

While “Eetha” will dominate in Hindi markets, with possibly a small advantage in Maharashtra due to its subject and the person (Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar) on whom the movie is based.

“Fauzi” will dominate all key markets of South India, primarily Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Its presence in the Hindi market will depend solely on promotional assets.

Ultimately, these two films are major projects in their own right, and releasing them together will hamper their business.
