Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Gets 18-Rating in UK for Strong Violence and Injury Detail
By Sakshi Navare,
Yash’s “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups” has received an 18 certificate in the UK from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), signalling that the upcoming Kannada action thriller contains content considered unsuitable for viewers under 18.
The BBFC has given the film its highest classification for adults and rated it 5/5 for violence and injury detail. The classification has drawn attention because “Toxic” is positioned as an action-heavy gangster drama, with the UK rating offering an indication of the intensity of its violent content.
The British classification comes shortly after the film completed its certification process in India. “Toxic” has received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), restricting theatrical admission in India to adult audiences.

The UK classification has also prompted comparisons with “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” another recent Indian action film noted for its graphic violence.
However, the two films should not be directly equated simply on the basis of their UK certificates. The BBFC’s classification is based on the content presented in each individual film, and the rating does not establish that “Toxic” is categorically more violent than “Dhurandhar.”
What the BBFC classification does establish is that violence and injury detail are significant enough in “Toxic” to warrant the highest adult rating in the UK.
Directed by Geethu Mohandas, “Toxic” is set in Goa between the 1940s and 1970s and follows a gangster world operating beneath the surface of the coastal paradise. The film is described as an action thriller centred on power, crime and family, with a father-son relationship forming part of its larger narrative.
Yash stars in the film and is also credited as a writer and producer. The ensemble includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Akshay Oberoi.
“Toxic” has undergone several release-date changes. It was originally announced for March 19, 2026, before being moved to June 4, 2026 and subsequently postponed again as the makers worked on a wider international rollout. The film is now scheduled to arrive worldwide on August 26, 2026.
