From ‘The Odyssey’ to ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Dune: Part Three’: Second Half of 2026 Slate Might Make It Hollywood’s Biggest Box Office Year
With releases like “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Incredibles 2” as some of the highest box-office contributors in 2018, the year might as well have been Hollywood’s biggest, with $11.89 billion in earnings. Each of those films grossed over $500 million, followed closely by “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Deadpool 2.” 2016 followed in terms of US domestic totals with $11.38 billion, thanks to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Finding Dory” and “Captain America: Civil War”.
As for 2026, “Toy Story 5” has raked in $467.6 million domestically, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” came through with $429.8 million and “Michael” with $372.3 million. “Project Hail Mary” appeared as a surprise with its $344 million run, managing to add a solid amount to the total.

“The Odyssey” received a strong start, with current numbers at $438.4 million. It is expected to reach close to $1 billion by the end of its run. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which premiered last weekend, has already surpassed any expectations, locking in an impressive $360 million during its opening weekend. Within this, it acquired $169 million on its opening Friday across 4,487 theaters, breaking the all-time single-day domestic record previously held by “Avengers: Endgame,” which brought in $157.4 million in 2019.
The rest of the year looks nothing less than a wonder for cinema fans with the upcoming releases of the highly anticipated Dunesday clash comprising “Dune: Part Three” and “Avengers: Doomsday” in December. Before they even make their mark, “Resident Evil,” “Digger” and “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” present a strong forefront at the box office.

Apart from these, Anne Hathaway’s “The End of Oak Street” and “Verity,” Jason Statham’s “Mutiny,” Ryan Reynolds’ “Mayday,” Ridley Scott-directed “The Dog Stars,” Matthew McConaughey’s “The Rivals of Amziah King,” and Dwayne Johnson’s “Jumanji: Open World” are awaited premieres expected to make it big in the rest of the year.
