While “Ramayana” has dominated the domestic box office through presales, the Tamil Nadu market has shown interest in two local-language films - “Scene,” starring Suriya, and “Mookuthi Amman 2,” headlined by Nayanthara.

The promotional assets of both films have struck a chord with audiences and are expected to register good numbers, with both films capitalizing on the festive weekend of Diwali.

According to trade tracker Ramesh Bala, “Scene” is eyeing an opening of over ₹20 crore in India. With Suriya delivering back-to-back hits in 2026 with “Karuppu” and “Vishwanath and Sons,” it is expected to hit the bullseye and score a hat-trick for the lead star. In fact, it is currently competing with “Kanguva” (₹24 crore) to become Suriya’s biggest opener of all time.

Meanwhile, “Mookuthi Amman 2” is expected to open above ₹8 crore in the domestic market. A substantial jump in collections, however, will depend on the film’s content. Since the first installment premiered directly on OTT during the pandemic, the box office performance of the sequel will define the future of the franchise.

“Scene,” which is directed by Jithu Madhavan of “Romancham” and “Aavesham” fame, also stars Nazriya Fahadh and Naslen in lead roles. The Tamil film will also be released with a Telugu-dubbed version. The film is backed by Suriya, Jyothika and Jaishree Damodaran under their banners, 2D Entertainment and Zhagaram Studios.

Nayanthara’s “Mookuthi Amman 2” features Urvashi, Thudiya Vii, Regina Cassandra, Yogi Babu and Abhinaya in supporting roles. The film is directed by Sundar C, whose notable credits include “Ullathai Allittha,” “Arunachalam” and “Anbe Sivam.” The movie is bankrolled by Wales Film International, Avini Cinemax, Nayanthara and Ivy Entertainment.
