‘Raja Shivaji’ Opens to ₹11 Crore, Sets New Day 1 Benchmark for Marathi Cinema

"Raja Shivaji" has delivered a strong start at the domestic box office, collecting ₹11 crore net on its first day as it released in cinemas on Maharashtra Day. The film, directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, marks the biggest openings for a Marathi-language release.

The historical action drama achieved the figure from 1,941 shows, registering an average occupancy of 68%, reflecting steady audience turnout across regions. The performance follows a solid advance booking phase, which had already indicated a strong opening trajectory. While the Marathi version brought ₹7.7 crore net, the Hindi version registered another ₹3.3 crore net.

Ahead of release, "Raja Shivaji" recorded ₹5.14 crore in advance bookings, with ₹4.25 crore gross (₹3.60 crore net) coming from the Marathi version alone, setting it up for a strong opening that it has now exceeded.

With its ₹11 crore debut, the film has moved past the previous Day 1 records held by "Sairat" and "Timepass 2", both of which had collected approximately ₹3.60 crore net on their opening days.

The film features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Boman Irani, Amol Gupte and Genelia Deshmukh, with a cameo appearance by Salman Khan.

With a strong opening day and solid pre-release traction, "Raja Shivaji" has set a new Day 1 mark for Marathi cinema, with its weekend performance now in focus.
