‘Husbands in Action’ Review: Jin Seon-kyu, Gong Myung’s Bromance Wins Over With Its Comic Punches
The promos of “Husbands in Action” instantly caught attention with its slightly whacked-out premise. The movie is now streaming on Netflix, and while it does not give you stitches per se, it is consistently funny. Jin Seon-kyu (Hwang Choong-sik) is a workaholic cop and a divorcé. His ex-wife, Si-nae (Kang Han-na), is married to veterinarian Lee Min-seok (Gong Myung). Choong-sik and Si-nae are parents to Yeon-ju (Oh Eun-seo), and Choong-sik is a doting father. Choong-sik and Min-seok are compelled to join hands when gangster Ma Do-jun’s (Kim Ji-seok) wife kidnaps Si-nae and Yeon-ju to secure the release of her husband.
“Husbands in Action” wastes no time as Choong-sik and Min-seok spring into action to save the love of their lives. Jin Seon-kyu and Gong Myung are excellent as Kang Han-na’s former and current husbands, who have immense disdain for one another. The banter is hilarious, with Jin Seon-kyu having some of the better lines.

Jin Seon-kyu is a comedy veteran with memorable titles like "Extreme Job," "Confidential Assignment: 2" and "Long Live The King" under his belt. With "Husbands in Action," he again proves why fast-paced action comedies are his specialty.
Gong Myung’s comic timing matches that of his senior co-star and it is evident that they are having a ball. Yoon Kyung-Ho (Kim Yong-gang) is hilarious as the slightly outdated gangster struggling in a modern world where AI has more value than drugs. This trio carries the film on its back.
Filmmaker Park Gyu-tae keeps the narrative under two hours, which works well for the movie. Kim Jong-hyun and Park Gyu-tae also get credit for some genuinely funny dialogues. The journey of Choong-sik and Min-seok from rivals to being almost “brothers” is the most entertaining aspect of the movie. Gong Myung shows off his histrionic skills as a vet with a hidden passion for motorsports adventure. Kim Ji-seok as Ma Do-jun also brings a crazy element to his character. The chase sequences and action choreography are decent, but the humor stands out even in those scenes.
"Husbands in Action" is also a respite from the innumerable Korean dramas where fractured interpersonal relationships form the core of hidden trauma. All the husbands, wives, exes and potential partners take jibes at one another, but none of that ever comes across as mean or humiliating. It celebrates the concept of a ‘modern family’ with hilarity.
"Husbands in Action," one of the underhyped Korean projects, delivers much better comedy than some of the Korean romcom series of 2026. A surprise cameo by YoonA (real name: Lim Yoona) hints that a "Wives in Action" could also be in the pipeline.
