Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film “Jana Nayagan” has had a steady run at the box office, especially in Tamil Nadu. While the arrival of Lokesh Kanagaraj-Wamiqa Gabbi’s “DC” and R Madhavan’s “G.D.N.” may slow down its pace, the political action-drama is on its way to achieve a huge milestone.

“Jana Nayagan” currently stands at ₹186.33 crore and is on track to beat Suriya’s “Karuppu” (₹198.18 crore) to become the highest Tamil grosser of 2026. Looking at the current scenario, the film is expected to end its theatrical run at just over ₹200 crore. It will become Vijay’s third  ₹200 crore grosser after “Leo” and “The Greatest of All Time.”

While the numbers are good, it would have been significantly stronger if the film had not been impacted by online piracy, which happened almost a month before its official box-office release. “Jana Nayagan” was initially slated to hit the screens on January 9 this year. However, it was stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), resulting in a delay of more than six months in its theatrical release.

Partially inspired by Nandamuri Balakrishna’s “Bhagavanth Kesari,” the film also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani in supporting roles. It marks Bobby Deol’s second Tamil outing after Suriya-starrer “Kanguva.”

“Jana Nayagan” is directed by H. Vinoth of “Nerkonda Paarvai,” “Valimai” and “Thunivu” fame. Produced by Venkat K. Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, the film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav.
