‘Baby Do Die Do’ Trailer Review: Huma Qureshi Shines As A Deadly, Silent Assassin In This Dark Comedy Thriller
The trailer for “Baby Do Die Do” has officially dropped, introducing us to a highly unique premise: India's very first "desi hitwoman." Played by a fiercely locked-in Huma Qureshi, the film promises a wild genre cocktail that blends high-stakes crime, stylized action, deep emotional turmoil and a healthy dose of pitch-black comedy.
The trailer wastes absolutely no time dragging audiences into its moody, atmospheric world. We track Qureshi's character, Baby Karmarkar, as she navigates the damp, rain-soaked landscapes of a Mumbai monsoon. In a brilliant opening visual, she is seen riding the iconic Mumbai local train, her intense eyes beneath a face-concealing scarf as she peeps at unsuspecting strangers. But Baby isn't an ordinary commuter; she is a death-defying, deaf-mute contract killer tasked with eliminating wanted men. Her ultimate weapon of choice? A simple, unassuming red umbrella.

What makes “Baby Do Die Do” instantly intriguing is how it balances its grim body count with dry, satirical humor. The movie’s title itself is a clever, macabre linguistic puzzle. Do Die Do plays directly on Baby’s lethal philosophy, which translates in Hindi to Kar Mar Kar — a hilarious nod to her character’s Maharashtrian last name, Karmarkar.
Huma Qureshi looks to be in absolute peak form here. Performing without dialogue, she relies entirely on her expressive, piercing gaze and sharp physical language to convey both the cold calculation of an assassin and the internal vulnerability of a woman trapped in a corner. The trailer cleverly juxtaposes her childhood — where a mentor figure played by Chunky Panday teaches a young Baby to take three deep breaths to conquer her fear — with the present day, where she ruthlessly executes a target in a crowded metro station.
Yet, for all her lethal nighttime efficiency, Baby's biggest challenge might just be her domestic life. Nobody at home has a single clue about her bloody moonlighting. The legendary Seema Pahwa seems to handle the majority of the comedic heavy lifting, anchoring the trailer's funniest bits, including a riotous game of charades trying to guess Baby's name, and a brilliantly deadpan interaction with a police inspector at the front door.
As the stakes rise, the trailer shifts into overdrive. The danger escalates as powerful, influential puppet masters — played by a menacing Sikandar Kher and Vidya Malvade — tighten the noose around Baby. Chunky Panday delivers a chilling reminder of their grim reality: in their line of work, there is only "incoming, no outgoing." With Rachit Singh and Himanshu Malik also on her trail, the tension is palpable.
Slated to hit cinemas on July 3, “Baby Do Die Do” looks like a refreshing, adrenaline-fueled ride for cinephiles who love their action slick and their humor dark.
