After ‘Vaazha 2’s’ Box-Office Triumph, ‘Vaazha 3: Biopic of a Billion Girls’ Set for 2027 Release (EXCLUSIVE)

Building on the breakout success of its Malayalam coming-of-age franchise, “Vaazha,” the team behind “Vaazha II: Biopic of a Billion Bros” is expanding the series with a third installment, “Vaazha 3: Biopic of a Billion Girls.” “Vaazha II” is currently racing toward the ₹200-crore mark at the global box office.
While the first two films explored the lives of boys and young men, the third chapter shifts focus to female perspectives, aiming to deliver a fresh yet equally relatable narrative for younger audiences. The project, tentatively titled “Vaazha 3,” will once again be written by filmmaker Vipin Das, who penned the earlier installments.
Reflecting on the franchise’s evolution, co-producer Harris Desom says the expansion was far from planned. “The first two parts are about boys, and the third will tell a story about girls,” he told Variety India. “When we made the first film, we had no idea it would turn into a franchise. Vipin Das initially pitched ‘Vaazha’ with fresh faces, but there weren’t many takers at that budget. It was only when we worked together on ‘Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil’ (helmed by Vipin with Harris Desom as its executive producer) that we built the confidence to move forward.”

The idea for a sequel came just a week before the release of “Vaazha: Biopic of a Billion Boys” in 2024. Following its success, the team moved quickly on to “Vaazha II.” A hallmark of the franchise has been its commitment to nurturing in-house talent. “We wanted to make those who worked as associates in technical and direction departments independent,” Harris said. “That’s how ‘Vaazha II’ was made. Viswan Sreejith, who assisted Vipin and worked on the earlier films, will make his directorial debut with Vaazha 3.”
Harris acknowledges that working with newcomers comes with its own challenges, but sees it as central to the franchise’s identity. “Only success gives us the confidence to back fresh talent. If we go beyond established stars, budgets and timelines can increase. But we are strong on content, and that’s why we choose newcomers.”
Development of the third film is in its early stages, with the core idea yet to be fully fleshed out into a script. Casting and pre-production will follow, with a strong emphasis on training new actors. “It’s a long process. Unlike star-driven films where things move quickly, we invest time in preparing our artists,” he says. “We’re aiming to begin production this year, with a release planned for 2027.” The producer also confirms that audiences can expect crossovers within the Vaazha universe.
Beyond storytelling, the franchise has embraced a collaborative creative model, employing multiple artists across departments, including music, cinematography and editing. “We observe everyone’s work on set and try to bring them to the forefront,” Harris says.
Addressing the broader trend of light-hearted films resonating with audiences, he adds, “A film works only when it feels relatable, whether it’s family drama, horror, or even a superhero film. The emotions have to land. Vaazha connected because it reflected real lives.”
That connection has translated into its box-office success. The original film’s earnings were reinvested into its sequel, which was made on nearly three times the budget of the first. “Vaazha II: Biopic of a Billion Bros” has already grossed over ₹160 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2026 so far.
