A brand-new look at 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment's “Whalefall” has surfaced, and it dials the deep-sea claustrophobia all the way up. Based on Daniel Kraus’ hit survival novel, this upcoming thriller turns an unfathomable nightmare into a grueling fight for every breath, officially swimming into Indian theaters on October 16, 2026.
The story kicks off off the central coast of California, where Jay Gardiner, played by Austin Abrams, embarks on a dangerous scuba dive. Driven by guilt and grief following the death of his father, Mitt, portrayed by Josh Brolin, Jay descends into the murky waters in search of his father's remains. Instead, catastrophe strikes. Unexpectedly sucked into the massive jaws of an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale, Jay finds himself swallowed alive.

Helmed by director Brian Duffield, who co-wrote the script alongside novelist Daniel Kraus, “Whalefall” blends visceral creature-feature tension with an emotional father-son story. Producing titans Brian Grazer, Brian Duffield, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum lead the project behind the scenes, alongside executive producers Doug Merrifield, Richard Abate, and Will Rowbotham.
