Ranveer Singh’s “Pralay” was supposed to begin production with an action-packed first schedule in Australia. However, Variety India has exclusively learned that the schedule has been canceled after the makers didn’t get the required shooting permits.

The team had planned to film large-scale action sequences in a remote and deserted part of the country but was unable to obtain the necessary permissions due to strict filming rules and regulations. The action directors and stunt choreographers have now flown to Mumbai, where the team is planning to shoot the sequences in a studio.

“Pralay” is touted as a VFX-heavy action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world and marks the Hindi film debut of Malayalam actress and legendary filmmaker Priyadarshan’s daughter, Kalyani Priyadarshan.

Known for her performances in “Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra” and “Hridayam,” Kalyani has trained with international stunt masters and coordinators for “Pralay.” The “Hello” star will be seen performing high-octane action sequences and stunts alongside Ranveer Singh.

Singh will film the first schedule until Diwali, following which he will take a paternity break. He is expected to begin the second schedule in 2027.

Bankrolled by Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films and Ranveer Singh’s Maa Kasam Films, “Pralay” is directed by Jai Mehta, son of acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta.

Jai is best known for co-directing the hit biographical financial thriller series “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story” alongside his father. He also helmed the action-drama series “Lootere,” featuring Vivek Gomber, Rajat Kapoor, Amruta Khanvilkar, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Martial Batchamen, Aamir Ali, Athenkosi Magamela, Chris Gxalaba and Preetika Chawla.

The film’s screenplay is written by Vishal Kapoor and Jai Mehta.
