This weekend turned out to be a remarkable one, with Hollywood biggie “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” setting new benchmarks at the box office. The sheer dominance of the webhead film impacted holdover releases, with a drastic drop in occupancy across the country.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Emerges As The Biggest Opening Weekend Hollywood Grosser

The Tom Holland-starrer superhero flick achieved a major milestone in its extended opening weekend of four days, raking in ₹257.95 crore, surpassing “Avengers: Endgame,” which clocked in ₹158.65 crore in its three-day first weekend. On Sunday, the film recorded its highest single-day collection with an insane ₹77.75 crore. Since no biggies are releasing this week, it is expected to enjoy a free run at the ticket windows.

‘Jana Nayagan’ and ‘The Odyssey’ Take a Backseat

The storm of the new Spidey film impacted the numbers of Thalapathy Vijay’s “Jana Nayagan” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” The Tamil political action-thriller earned ₹22.05 crore in its second weekend and now stands with a total of ₹175.6 crore. It is on track to enter the ₹200 crore club in the domestic market. On the other hand, the Hollywood epic action-fantasy film dropped to ₹14.6 crore in its third weekend and currently stands at ₹149.85 crore.

‘Chennai Love Story’ and ‘Dhamaal 4’ Stay Afloat

Other holdover releases have managed to contribute their bit at the box office but are soon expected to end their theatrical run. Ajay Devgn’s adventure-comedy “Dhamaal 4” collected ₹5.15 crore in its fourth weekend, taking its total business to ₹161.05 crore. Talking about “Chennai Love Story,” the Telugu flick raked in ₹6.01 crore in its second weekend and stands with a total collection of ₹33.01 crore.
