Between ‘DC,’ ‘Toxic,’ ‘Batwara 1947,’ ‘Awarapan’ and Eetha’, There’s A Clash Every Weekend In August

August promises to be a blockbuster season with several prominent releases scheduled this month across India. In fact, there’s a clash happening every weekend. Content-driven films take on franchise movies and Hollywood flicks battle tentpole Indian films, across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

‘Prahaar’ vs ‘Ohh My Dog’ vs ‘DC’

The first week of the month (August 7) will witness the box office clash between a biographical drama (“Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story”), a small content-oriented flick (“Ohh My Dog) and a pan-India action-thriller from Tamil cinema (“DC”). Unfortunately, the buzz of Hindi films, Rajkummar Rao’s “Prahaar” and Pankaj Tripathi-Pawan Malhotra’s “Ohh My Dog” is quite low among cinegoers. However, “DC,” which marks the acting debut of popular director Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been making noise in Tamil Nadu, accompanying a decent buzz in the north Indian markets.

The Independence weekend (August 14) will see Sunny Deol and Emraan Hashmi battling out with “Batwara 1947” and “Awarapan 2” respectively. The excitement and expectations from both films are high due to Sunny’s capability of pulling audiences to cinema halls and the first part of “Awarapan” enjoying cult status among fans. Apart from these two films, Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s coming-of-age Tamil flick “Vishwanath & Sons” may emerge as a pleasant box-office surprise. On the same weekend, Anne Hathaway’s sci-fi thriller “The End Of Oak Street” will arrive to entertain the audience with its gripping plot and compelling storytelling.

‘I’m Game’ vs ‘Khalifa’ vs ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ vs ‘The Paradise’ vs ‘Insidious 6’ vs ‘Mutiny’

Six new films will fight for screens in the third weekend of August, including two Hollywood films, three Malayalam films and one pan-India Telugu actioner. Dulquer Salmaan’s “I’m Game” will clash with Prithviraj Sukumaran’s “Khalifa” on August 20, coinciding with the Onam festival season. Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju-starrer "Bethlehem Kudumba Unit" will also cash in on the festive weekend, arriving on August 21. On the other hand, “Insidious: Out of the Further,” the sixth installment of the supernatural horror franchise and Jason Statham’s “Mutiny” will hit screens on August 21, alongside Nani’s highly anticipated “The Paradise.” However, the makers could shift the release date of the Telugu pan-India film to get a clutter-free window.

‘Toxic’ vs ‘Eetha’ vs ‘Khoshla Ka Ghosla 2’ vs ‘The Dog Stars’

Yash’s much-awaited period Gangster-actioner “Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups” arrives August 26, while Shraddha Kapoor-led biographical musical drama “Eetha,” Anupam Kher-starrer “Khosla Ka Ghosla 2” and Ridley Scott-directed “The Dog Stars” will hit screens August 28. With “Toxic” expected to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2026, the rest of the films also have the potential to become winners at the ticket windows.
