Rohit Saraf to Start Filming Sajid Ali’s ‘Heer Ranjha’ in September (EXCLUSIVE)
Rohit Saraf is set to begin filming “Heer Ranjha” in the first week of September, Variety India has learned. Directed by Sajid Ali, who previously helmed “Laila Majnu,” the film is written by his brother, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali. The “Main Vaapas Aaunga” director took time out before beginning work on his next directorial venture to complete the screenplay for “Heer Ranjha.”
Contrary to earlier reports that Sara Arjun would be starring in the film, the makers have decided to introduce a new face opposite Saraf. Sajid Ali’s “Laila Majnu” had met with an underwhelming response at the box office when it was released in 2018. Over the years, the film was brought into the spotlight by cinephiles. Last year, it found a new audience and emerged as a surprise box office success when it was re-released in theatres. Following that, on Valentine’s Day (February 14) this year, “Heer Ranjha” was announced. The timeless tale of love will be produced by Ektaa Kapoor.

With cameras set to roll in early September, “Heer Ranjha” marks Rohit Saraf's next major romantic lead. The actor, who has been part of films like “Dear Zindagi,” “Ludo,” “The Sky is Pink,” and “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari,” is currently shooting for the fourth season of his popular web series “Mismatched,” opposite Prajkta Koli.
Imtiaz Ali's most recent release was the Partition drama “Main Vaapas Aaunga,” starring Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, Sharvari and Diljit Dosanjh, which won critical as well as box office appreciation. Sajid Ali’s last directorial venture was “Woh Bhi Din The” (2024), featuring Rohit Saraf, Adarsh Gourav and Sanjana Sanghi, which had released on OTT.
