‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ Trailer Review: A Bittersweet Tale Of Love And Longing That Beautifully Bridges A Lifetime Of Separation
Love does transcend borders. And the trailer of Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film “Main Vaapas Aaunga” evokes that very lingering sentiment of romance and memories that refuse to fade away and last a lifetime. With a stellar cast including Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari, the trailer takes audiences into a charming world filled with deep love and emotion.
Audiences should brace themselves for an emotional ride, as the trailer is full of deeply moving scenes. The film is the heartfelt story of the character played by Naseeruddin Shah, a Partition victim, who has been longing and reminiscing the memories of his loved one for the past 78 years. With his wish to visit Sargodha, his hometown across the border in the Pakistan side of Punjab being his one final wish, Diljit Dosanjh’s character looks to make that happen come what may. Such is the power of love, even though someone else feels it.

The trailer beautifully goes back in time to take audiences through the time where Shah’s character was a young man (Vedang Raina) who was head over heels over Sharvari. There is silence and his poetry that speaks what words cannot, along with a sense of admiration and mutual respect that makes one wish for the old-school romance that the modern generation lacks.
The film is about a lot of things, one of them being hope. And it does make audiences hope that Shah’s character, who had his world torn apart due to the Partition in 1947, finds the closure he seeks before he takes his last breath. While we only get to see the younger version of Sharvari, will it be her or another actor playing her character in the present (now that would be a welcome surprise that we would love) is what might just make “Main Vaapas Aaunga” one of the most emotional films to hit screens this year.
Set to release on June 12, the film also reunites the trio of A.R. Rahman, Irshad Kamil after “Amar Singh Chamkila” (2024). And with the film being set in the 1940s, expect the music to take us to a world where love was slow, poetic, and entirely unforgettable.
