‘Supergirl’ Takes Off With $18 Million On Opening Day
“Toy Story 5” collected $21 million from 4,425 locations in North America as it headed into its second weekend in theatres. The film is expected to earn between $70 million and $80 million by Sunday, taking its domestic total to just under $300 million. “Toy Story 5” had already delivered the biggest opening weekend of 2026 with $160 million domestically and amassed a franchise-best $312 million globally last weekend.
Among the new releases, Warner Bros. and DC’s “Supergirl” emerged as the strongest performer, opening with $18 million on Friday from 3,602 theatres. The superhero adventure is projected to finish the weekend with around $50 million. By comparison, James Gunn’s “Superman,” produced on a budget of $225 million, debuted to $125 million last year before ending its theatrical run with $618 million worldwide. Though Supergirl carried a lower production cost of $170 million, the film will still require a healthy theatrical run to justify its budget.
