This Independence Day weekend will witness multiple releases battling for screens and collections at the box office, as every year. Sunny Deol-starrer “Batwara 1947” and Emraan Hashmi’s “Awarapan 2” will target a similar market and audiences due to their content and appeal. On the other hand, Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s “Vishwanath and Sons” is expected to dominate the Tamil Nadu market and, to some extent, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana due to the popularity of Telugu director Venky Atluri.
While the two Hindi films will enjoy the widest releases across the country, the Southern market will be dominated by Suriya, according to industry experts. Veteran trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai says, “I think Surya will dominate the South market. Sunny Deol has a massive fanbase, but his market is limited to North India. In South India, Surya will score big time. With Tamil and the dubbed version of Telugu, ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ will land two major markets. Since Telugu director Venky Atluri’s last film “Lucky Baskhar” was a superhit. I think ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ is the clear favorite.”
He further shares that “Batwara 1947” might get a chance to do some business in the Telugu-speaking markets along with metro cities in South India, but “Awarapan 2” has no prospects there.

“‘Batwara 1947’ may do some business in the Nizam area of Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Telangana and some key areas like Bengaluru. But ‘Awarapan 2’ has no chance as Emraan Hashmi is not a big name in South India. So, ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ will have an upper edge down south.”
Ramesh Bala, industry tracker from Chennai, echoes Pillai’s thoughts and says, “The South market will belong to Suriya. These Hindi movies will just perform their usual business, but ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ will dominate.”
If “Vishwanath and Sons” meets trade and industry expectations, it could further strengthen Suriya's successful 2026 following the blockbuster performance of "Karuppu."
